PhotoDune vs iStockphoto
A long awaited Envato marketplace opened a while ago. PhotoDune is the latest marketplace by the company, which is dedicated to selling stock photography.
It’s the marketplace I’ve always wondered & slightly dreaded they would make. It meant I would have to decide between iStock & PhotoDune.
So what did I do? I decided to drop my exclusivity with iStock and only put images that were not on my iStockphoto library onto PhotoDune (as my account on the envato marketplaces is an exclusive one). This meant I could legally sell on both marketplaces.
How does that work? Easy. iStockphoto specifies that if you are exclusive with them, you may not sell any imagery on any other website, whereas exclusivity with Envato specifies that you may not sell the same files on other websites.
So as long as I keep the 2 portfolios with separate images, I’m all clear!
This will also help me gain a wider range of potential customers, as iStockphoto and Envato both have massive audiences. And I’m 100% certain that both audiences aren’t a complete overlap of each other 🙂
So without further adieu, here are the seed images I have currently for sale on PhotoDune:
