Learning new (non-digital) skills

As mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve been looking for new hobbies (and skills!) to try and to hopefully pick up. One issue has been ‘where to start?’. After a bit of googling, it became apparent that now – because we’re in the United States – we had access to quite a lot of subscription boxes that one cannot receive whilst living in Australia.

So Josh & I signed up for New Hobby Box back in March (for the April box as our first one), just to try out some new things. So for our first box, we learnt how to do calligraphy!

To the right is a shot from my #PNPAD that shows the cute presentation you receive your hobby box contents in.

After a bit of a snafu regarding the pen and nib we received (excellent customer service, by the way!) we received a 2nd set that worked better.

I finally got a chance to try it out. Following the instructions they provide… it appears I need to practice a lot. Hah!

My attempt at calligraphy - new skills

This month we should expect to learn how to Scrimshaw – on non-ivory/bones – which I had to look up the meaning behind and next month we will be learning how to make bars of soap!

What is something you are doing recently – old or new – to improve your skills or broaden your horizons?
