People ask me a lot, where I find the time to work 40+ hours a week in the city (along with 8-10hours of travel), as well as freelance successfully.
I recently read a blog post over at WorkAwesome that made me realise why I am able to pull this off, and still have time to spend with my significant other & play games to unwind.
I made procrastination a luxury, for things that aren’t work related.
Once I get my mind set into a “work” mode, I can focus my attention entirely on what I am doing. This covers both my professional job as a Front-End Developer, as well as my freelance profession as a web developer/designer.
I have had trouble ever since I can remember with procrastination. I can put something off for so long that it becomes scary. So, to combat this, I have taught myself that the time wasted umm-ing and err-ing over the fact I should be doing something more constructive, I just sit myself down, ask for space, peace and quiet, and get it done.
Now I can already hear you say “You make it sound so easy!”. Well, yes, I do make it sound easy, but it really isn’t. It took me a long time to get into this mentality, and be strong enough to force myself to get underway. It takes a lot of hard work and determination. But it is worth it.
Have you considered, but are unsure about going the “dual life” like myself? Do you currently work full time “for the man” as well as freelance?
